MoD at fault over death of two sailors in nuclear submarine explosion, minister admits

The Ministry of Defence must shoulder the blame for the deaths of two servicemen killed in a nuclear submarine blast, the Government admitted today.

Armed Forces Minister Bob Ainsworth apologised to the families as an official report revealed damning evidence that equipment problems on the vessels were routinely ignored.

Leading Operator Mechanic Paul McCann, 32, and Operator Mechanic Anthony Huntrod, 20, were both killed when an oxygen generator exploded on HMS Tireless during a training operation off Alaska in March last year.
