SA Navy uses Internet tolure new sailors for subs

The SA Navy has resorted to the Internet in its efforts to attract people to serve on its new submarines.

The web page details the number of personnel needed – 129 – to man the three 209 Type 1400 Model SA submarines acquired as part of the multi-billion strategic arms acquisition package, as well as technical personnel necessary for the greater submarine service.

The recruitment drive comes after repeated calls by military analysts and opposition politicians wanting to know if the maritime service of the SA National Defence Force has the capacity and capability to operate and maintain the underwater craft.
