Defence Minister Phil Goff says a claim New Zealand's navy frigates do not spend enough time at sea is rubbish.Figures requested in parliament show one frigate, Te Kaha, spent 79 days at sea last year, and is likely to spend one day in four at sea this year.
Te Kaha was placed on reduced operation status for the first quarter of this year, meaning it was unable to go to sea due to the need to train personnel.
The frigate also now needs 24 hours' notice to be deployed instead of 12 because of its reduced operation status.
