Australia to push US on supply of Raptor fighter

Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon will step up his efforts to persuade the United States to make its top secret F-22 Raptor fighter available for sale to Australia.

The Raptor is the most sophisticated fighter aircraft ever built and US Congress has decreed that it may not be sold to any foreign countries, even America's closest allies.

The aircraft is already being flown by the US Air Force and at least one Australian pilot is training to fly it.
