S Korea to equip Aegis destroyer with long-range missiles to counter N Korean missiles

South Korea will equip its Aegis destroyers with far-reaching sea-to-air missiles to intercept North Korea's long-range missiles, believed to be capable of reaching western parts of the mainland United States, a military source said Sunday.

North Korea has test-fired several missiles over the past years and the South Korean and U.S. intelligence communities fear the North has already developed intercontinental Daepodong missiles which can hit the western coast of the U.S.

Pyongyang is also believed to have deployed hundreds of Rodong missiles capable of loading nuclear warheads with a range of over 1,500 kilometers to cover all of Japan as well as South Korea.
