Raf Trail Russian Bombers

British fighter jets were scrambled to intercept two Russian bombers heading for UK airspace yesterday.

The move came as Russia staged a show of military might in the Bay of Biscay - their biggest exercises since the Soviet era.

The long-range Russian Tu-160 bombers - known by the Nato codename Blackjack - were spotted approaching British airspace when RAF and Norwegian Tornado and F-16 jets intercepted.
