Hybrid Radio/Acoustic Submarine Communications

Deep Siren is a system that uses expendable small buoys that can be dropped on demand by surface, aerial or ejected directly from submarines, that act as an acoustic sonar relay for radio signals.

The buoy collects the radio message, relayed through the Iridium satellite system, and automatically transforms it into an acoustic message and transmits it, which the submarine can pick up passively without giving away its location.

The receiver unit on the sub takes the acoustic signal and transforms it to a normal human readable text message.
