USAF To Upgrade HH-60Gs

Delays in CSAR-X Prompted Move

The U.S. Congress has approved spending $99 million to upgrade the HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter, which will be used to provide better protection from anti-aircraft fire, improved communications gear and stronger airframes.

The upgrade plans weren’t part of the service’s 2008 budget proposal.

But once it became clear that continuing problems in awarding a contract for the Air Force’s new combat search-and-rescue helicopter would not be resolved until the middle of next year, at best, money that would have gone to the so-called CSAR-X was redirected to HH-60G improvements.
