Cyprus has swapped her batch of S300 missiles with Greece. In return, the island will receive a TOR-M1 surface-to-air missile system and the SUZANA defence system.In 1997 the Glafcos Cleridies government signed a deal with Russian manufacturers to purchase the Russian-S300 missiles, in a bid to strengthen the republic's air-defence in case of a new Turkish offensive.
At the time the move was fully backed by Greece, but Turkey insisted that the missiles posed an unacceptable threat.
