Canada for the moment sticks to its Aurora aircraft

For the moment, at least 10 of the 18 Aurora maritime patrol aircraft belonging to the Canadian armed forces will keep on doing their duty, pending the government's decision on the purchase of newer means.

This was stated by sources of the government itself, which confirmed that the Aurora, a four-engine turboprop derived from the US P-3 Orion, will remain service until 2020, and that its substitution will take place gradually.

The Canadian military were contrary to keep the Auroras in activity, as they necessitate expensive structural maintenance interventions (so far, the Defence Department has already spent CAN$ 955 million to upgrade the aircraft's equipment), but it seems that airspace industry lobbies have been more successful on the political level.
