Export of BrahMos awaits nod from India, Russia

After the induction of the BrahMos into the army and navy, the Indo-Russian joint venture that makes the supersonic cruise missile is still awaiting an inter-governmental agreement that will allow it to market the weapon system globally.

A senior official of the Defence Research and Development Organisation attached to the BrahMos project confirmed that his office had received numerous requests from countries that had evinced keen interest in the supersonic missile.

"However, the governments of India and Russia are yet to formulate a joint marketing strategy for the sale of the BrahMos system to other countries," the official told the media.
