Brittish PM leaves door open for more navy cuts

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usThe Royal Navy was last night braced for the worst after Gordon Brown refused to rule out cuts in the size of the fleet.The Prime Minister dodged a question on preserving the existing fleet of frigates and destroyers which has already dwindled by a fifth in the last decade.

His decision to leave the door open to further cuts was branded a "hammer blow to the morale of the Royal Navy".

And Tory defence spokesman Julian Lewis told the WMN he expected another round of cuts to be "snuck out" in the coming months.
