A new fighter jet engine from GE Aviation will be part of an aircraft development program being conducted by Swedish manufacturer Saab.
GE Aviation's F414G engine will power the Gripen Aircraft Demonstrator Program, the company said in a news release. The Gripen is a multirole fighter aircraft used by the Swedish Air Force.
The F414G is similar to the F414-GE-400 engine that powers the F/A-18 Super Hornet, GE Aviation said in a news release. Saab is planning flight tests and customer demonstration evaluations from 2008 to 2010 for the updated Gripen.
