Cold-weather testing at Minot Air Force Base on a B-52 bomber using synthetic fuel has shown very favorable results, said the commander of the base’s 5th Bomb Wing. Col. Eldon Woodie said all the tests and data have come back “very good.”
A team from Edwards AFB, Calif., finished the ground testing of the B-52 this week and were returning to their home base.
The Minot B-52 was being tested for use of its standard JP-8 fuel and Fischer-Tropsch, a synthetic fuel. The testing is part of a project to use synthetic fuel to reduce the Air Force’s dependence on imported fuel.
