The Pakistan Navy will get the first of eight P-3C Orion aircraft from the US on January 18, said Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir at the ‘Annual Efficiency Competition Parade and Awards Ceremony 200 of the Pakistan Navy Fleet’ at the PN Dockyard on Saturday.
According to a statement by the navy, Tahir said the aircraft would land at the naval air base in Karachi. An extremely versatile aircraft, the Orion can be used for anti-submarine warfare, ship warfare, maritime surveillance, naval fleet support, searches and survivor supply.
“The induction of this all-weather aircraft will enhance the navy’s operational capabilities,” said the naval chief. He said it was vital to improve Pakistan’s defence capabilities, and therefore the navy was in the process of acquiring other modern weaponry.
