The Italian government is expected to sign soon a deal to develop the controversial US-sponsored Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), which would equip the Italian armed forces, said defence undersecretary Emidio Casula.
Speaking in Pisa, Italy, on the sidelines at the delivery of Finmeccanica SpA's first C27J transport plane to the air force, Casula said he is confident that the members of the ruling left-wing government will reach an agreement, despite some infighting, to go ahead with the programme.
In December, the UK and US governments signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the JSF.
