The South African Air Force is facing a major crisis due to shortages of pilots and technicians, Democratic Alliance defence spokesperson Roy Jankielsohn said on Tuesday."A reply to a parliamentary question has revealed that between 2004 and October 2006, a staggering 535 technicians and 70 pilots have resigned from the SAAF," he said in a statement.
Jankielsohn pinned the blame for the skills shortages on the SA National Defence Force's "exit mechanisms, designed to get rid of white individuals, together with racial quotas for senior positions".
The skills being lost were irreplaceable.
