The world's most sophisticated warship, the Type 45 class HMS Daring, currently being outfitted by BAE systems on the Clyde, has had its massive diesel generators switched on for the first time.The Countess of Wessex ceremonially switched on the generators yesterday, powering up the ship for the first time.
HMS Daring, which has cost £650 million to make, has a total power output of 45 Megawatts.
Vic Emery, managing director BAE Systems Naval Ships, said: "When the Type 45s enter service from 2009, they will provide the Royal Navy with the most advanced air defence capability in the world.
