''Turkey will buy 50 SLAM-ER missiles (Standoff Land Attack Missiles-Expanded Response) for 139 million USD, from the USA through Foreign Military Sale (FMS) program,'' Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said. Responding to a notice of Justice & Development Party (AKP) MP Turhan Comez from Balikesir, Gonul confirmed that U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency has asked for approbation of the Congress regarding the sale of the missiles to Turkey.
Gonul indicated that Turkey and USA reached agreement on the sale of missiles, adding that talks over payment conditions are under way.
He also added that these missiles would provide a great strategic advantage to Turkey.
