The Government has decided to continue its participation in the development of the US Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), after the manufacturer Lockheed Martin has put forward an improved package for Norwegian industry.
This means possible contracts for Norwegian industry worth up to NOK 20 billion.
The agreement means that Norway will allocate another NOK 114 million towards the development of the JSF fighter bomber. So far, Norway has paid NOK 429 million into the project.
(However) I will underline that this decision does not mean that we have made a final decision as to which fighter bomber Norway will eventually acquire, says Defence Minister Anne-Grete Stroem-Erichsen.
Norway has four options: In addition to the JSF, there is Eurofighter, the Swedish Jas Gripen and the French Rafale.
