Morocco ok's French upgrade offer

French officials said the Moroccan Defense Ministry has signed a preliminary agreement for the upgrade of 27 Mirage F1-CH/EH fighter aircraft for the air force of the North African kingdom. They said the modernization project would overhaul the aircraft and enhance its capabilities in a deal valued at 350 million euros.

Morocco received its F-1 fleet in 1988. About one-third of the fleet was said to have been retired amid lack of spare parts and maintenance.

Under the agreement, Morocco would examine a French offer to install modern avionics and radar in the F-1. Other elements of the proposed upgrade include a renovation of the air engines and structural modification.
