EADS CASA C-295M – New Transport Aircraft of the Finnish Air Force

EADS CASA C-295M
The Finnish Air Force renews its transport aircraft fleet with two EADS CASA C-295M aircraft.

The current fleet of Fokker F-27s will be replaced by the C-295M with the purpose of providing a transport capability for the Defence Force’s troops and material in Finland and abroad. The aircraft can be also used for non-military transport duties, for example in conjunction with humanitarian operations.

The competitive bidding proved to be very tough. Two aircraft types were involved: the Italian Alenia C-27J “Spartan” and the Spanish EADS CASA C-295M which had the lower contract price.

The value of the transport aircraft procurement contract is about 45 M€ covering two C-295Ms and related ground support equipment, special tools and instruments, spares and line replaceable units, technical documentation, and specialized training for pilots and aircraft maintenance personnel.
