Taiwan to Commission New Hawkeye Aircraft

Taiwan's four-strong fleet of E-2T Hawkeye aircraft (seen here), acquired in 1995, will soon be joined by two new E-2K Hawkeyes, based on the U.S. Navy's Hawkeye 2000 configuration.


Taiwan is expected to commission its two new E-2K Hawkeye early-warning and control aircraft tomorrow at an official ceremony at the Republic of China Air Force (ROCAF) base in Pingdong in southern Taiwan.

According to an industry source, these two new planes, built for Taiwan by Northrop Grumman (Bethpage, NY) and delivered in 2004, are based on the updated Hawkeye 2000 variant developed for the U.S. Navy.

The ROCAF already flies four older E-2T Hawkeyes that were acquired in 1995.
