DD(X) gets a funding boost

A key House subcommittee Thursday gave a boost to the DD(X), the Navy's next-generation destroyer, approving $2.6 billion for the project in next year's budget.

The House Armed Services Subcommittee on Projection Forces approved its $32 billion portion of the fiscal year 2007 defense authorization bill by voice vote.

The full armed services committee will consider the defense bill next week.

The subcommittee agreed with the budget proposal of President Bush for $2.6 billion for the DD(X), and authorized procurement of one ship in 2007.
