Mauritius to buy patrol vessel

KOCHI: Mauritius has decided to purchase an offshore-patrol vessel and Dhruv, the indigenously-developed Advanced-Light Helicopter from India, Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Chandra Ramgoolam said.

He was speaking to mediapersons at the Southern Naval Command here, after witnessing a helobatics display by the ALH and a visit to INS Sarda, an offshore-patrol vessel of the Indian Navy. "I was impressed at the helobatics show and the facilities aboard the ship. We decided to make the purchase since Mauritius has a long coastal belt and a sizeable Exclusive-Economic Zone to protect. We have an Indian helicopter in operation and are impressed at its performance. Moreover, Mauritian naval personnel are being trained aboard Indian ships," he said.
