India ready to sell choppers to Chile

India is on the verge of clinching a Rs.4 billion ($88 million) deal to sell a fleet of 20 to 30 indigenously developed Dhruv advanced light helicopters (ALHs) to Chile, a top Indian Air Force official said here.

While the air force has already placed an order for 80 Dhruv helicopters, developed at the Hindustan Aeronautic Limited (HAL) in Bangalore, the twin-engine lightweight flying machine has attracted international buyers too.

"Chile is almost ready to sign a Rs.4 billion deal for procuring the Dhruv helicopters. We are working on the deal and something is coming up very soon," said Air Marshal A.K. Singh, air officer commanding-in-chief Western Air Command, at Sarsawa Air Force Station here.
