Fincantieri has started construction of the eighth frégate européen multi-mission (FREMM) ship for the Italian Navy at its Riva Trigoso shipyard in Sestri Levante, Italy.Planned to be built in the general purpose configuration, the FREMM ship is scheduled to be delivered to the Italian Navy in early 2019.
This work is part of a contract awarded to Orizzonte Sistemi Navali to construct ten vessels for Italian Navy, to replace its ageing Fincantieri-built Lupo and Maestrale-class ships by 2021.
