Ultra Electronics tunes in to demand for electronic warfare with $265m US deal

EA-18G GrowlerUltra Electronics is to buy the electronic warfare division of US company Kratos Defence & Security Solutions as it bids to expand its presence in the fast-growing sector.

Ultra Electronics hopes to cash in on America stepping up spending in electronic warfare (EW) to counter Russia’s renewed military activity and new threats emerging from China.

The FTSE 250-listed defence technology group will pay up to $265m (£174m) for Kratos’ Electronic Products Division (EPD), which manufactures systems used in radar, missiles and communications.
