The famed SR-71 spy plane at the Virginia Aviation Museum got off the ground for the first time in decades to take a practice roll Monday.Still looking futuristic even though it was designed more than 50 years ago, the plane is preparing to move indoors this fall to star in a new “Speed” exhibit at the Science Museum of Virginia.
The SR-71 Blackbird reached a record speed of 2,193 mph and flew at altitudes over 85,000 feet, making it the world’s fastest and highest flying production aircraft, according to the science museum.
