The Defense Department is awarding BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair $36.6 million to overhaul Kidd, a destroyer that last year helped with the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which is believed to have crashed into the South China Sea.
The contract comes less than a month after BAE was awarded $36.9 million to upgrade and repair Lake Champlain, an aging cruiser that has made many deployments to the Persian Gulf.
Like its neighbor to the south -- General Dynamics-NASSCO -- BAE has been experiencing a boom in business at its yard in Barrio Logan.
