U.S. to deploy long-range radar in Alaska to counter N. Korean, Iranian missiles
The United States is planning to deploy a new long-range radar to Alaska to counter the growing missile capabilities of Iran and North Korea.
The Pentagon says the long-range discrimination radar will begin defensive operations in 2020 and will boost the capacity of ground-based interceptors in Alaska and California.
The Clear Air Force Station, an Air Force Space Command radar station in central Alaska, has been chosen as the location for the site.
