The Navy will be conducting a retirement ceremony for its SH-60B Seahawk helicopter next month as it completes 30 years of service. The Navy is transitioning to the MH-60R version of the Seahawk.
Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 49 is the last fleet squadron to fly the SH-60B, which has been in service since 1985. The SH-60B ceremony will be held May 11 at Naval Air Station North Island, Calif.
The last active-duty SH-60B detachment to deploy returned to its base at North Island on April 17 as its host ship, the Perry-class frigate USS Gary, returned to San Diego following a seven-month deployment off Central America. The deployment also was the last for Gary.
