Russia had hand in China's Type 054 frigate: Russian media

Type 054A class FFGA report published by a Russian military news website on March 1 suggests that China's most advanced frigate, the Type 054 multirole warship along with its variants, were developed with the help of Russian experts.

There are more Type 054 frigates in service with the PLA Navy than any other class of warship.

At the start of 2014, the PLA Navy had 15 of the frigates in service and five were being built at Guangzhou's Whampoa Shipyard and the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, which differ from their predecessors in their missile systems and electrical interference weapons.
