AgustaWestland seeks to persuade Government to buy its Apache helicopters over Boeing's - report

AgustaWestland Apache AH1An urgent campaign is reportedly under way to persuade the Government not to buy helicopters from abroad.

Yeovil-based helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland is said to have persuaded the Ministry of Defence to delay a decision on awarding a £1 billion Army contract to replace its Apache attack helicopters until September 2016.

It was reported on Friday that the MoD wants to replace its fleet with machines supplied by US manufacturer Boeing for around £20 million per craft – below the price AgustaWestland is said to be offering.
