US Wants Permanent Military Deployment at Spanish Base

The U.S. is requesting a change in a bilateral treaty with Spain in order to have permanent deployment of troops in that country to respond to crises in Africa.

The U.S. has requested Madrid to turn a Spanish military base in Moron de la Frontera “into a permanent base for responding on crises in Africa,” according to El Pais Monday.

The March 2014 agreement between Spain and the U.S., allows for 850 U.S. soldiers to be deployed at the airbase and that number can be increased up to 1,110.
