The Huanggang, one of China's most advanced Type 054A guided-missile frigates officially entered service with the PLA Navy on Jan. 16, reports Beijing-based Chinese-language military website Junqing.com.
Launched on Apr. 28, 2014, the Huanggang is the latest of four Type 054A frigates equipped with a variable-depth sonar to conduct anti-submarine operations. The variable-depth sonar and towed array sonar are presumably located at the left side of the stern.
In addition to 40 YJ-18 anti-ship and 16 HQ-16 air defense missiles, it is also equipped with Yu-7 and Yu-8 torpedoes.
