Nigeria may buy JF-17 Thunder fighters from Pakistan

JF-17 ThunderAfter purchasing two stealth frigates from China, Nigeria may order one or two fighter squadrons of the JF-17 Thunder multirole fighters jointly developed by China and Pakistan, Iranian defense expert Farhan Bokhari wrote in an article for Jane's Defence Weekly on Dec. 2.

Designed by Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, the JF-17 Thunder is also known as FC-1 Xiaolong in China. More than 50 JF-17 fighters have entered service with the Pakistan Air Force since 2007.

The 26th and 16th squadrons of the Pakistan Air Force are the first and currently the only two operational units to use the fighters. China took part in designing and producing the plane, made for the export market rather than for the People's Liberation Army.
