Three picked for £300M BAE submarine base


Three contractors have been appointed by BAE Systems as framework contractors on the £300M revamp of its submarine site, in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

The eight-year programme involves the redevelopment of the base in preparation for the building of a replacement for the Vanguard class submarines, as part of the renewal of the UK’s nuclear deterrent.

Costain, Morgan Sindall, and Shepherd will carry out the work, which involves project delivery on operational sites and integration of works into existing submarine build programmes. Work will commence in early 2015.
