Coast Guard Receives First C-27J for Modification

C-27 SpartanThe Coast Guard has taken delivery of its first C-27J Spartan transport aircraft, which will go through modification to a maritime patrol/transport aircraft for the service.

The Coast Guard is acquiring 14 C-27Js from the Air Force, which retired the aircraft as a cost-cutting move.

In acquiring the Spartans, the Coast Guard is able to truncate acquisition of the Airbus-built HC-144A Ocean Sentry maritime patrol aircraft at 18 aircraft, the last of which recently has been delivered, at half of the planned procurement of 36.
