PLA's DF-21D missiles already in service, says US report

DF-21D ASBMA forthcoming report from the bipartisan US-China Economic and Security Review Commission indicates that two brigades of DF-21D ballistic missiles have already entered service with the People's Liberation Army, Bill Gertz, senior editor of Washington Free Beacon, wrote in an article on Oct. 13.

The report will be published on November to discuss China's military expansion. Citing China's development of two stealth fighter models, the first deployment of a naval expeditionary amphibious group to the Indian Ocean and aerial bombing exercises in Kazakhstan, the report paints an alarming picture of China's growing aggressiveness and expanding power that the country could bring to bear against the United States and its regional allies.

Despite the strong trade and financial links between Beijing and Washington, the report said that the Communist Party government in China still views the United States as its primary adversary.

  1. This carrier killer ballistic missile is already in service in China. This is another reason why the new US Navy Frigate must have a baseline capability of Theater Ballistic Missile Defense. A 9-module AMDR Light radar will meet the need and fit on a frigate sized platform. Need that SQS-53 sonar on the front to preserve stability and provide significant passive ASW capability. If we have the Hybrid Electric Drive (HED) propulsion system this will be the quietest ASW system afloat. Put a towed sonar on it and an extremely capable ASW platform is now On Station. That ASW Station could very well be between the Battle Group and the continent. This would be a prime radar picket and BMD intercept station as well with SM-3 on exo-atmospheric targets. Aviation assets would most likely be in the vicinity and see threats at a great range. This is where the SM-6 comes in for endo-atmospheric targets. This will not be a ship with a shallow draft. It will probably have at least a 25' draft, and perhaps more when fully loaded, or running low on fuel.
