Sweden and Finland have tightened their ties with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, saying that they intend to sign an agreement making it easier for troops from the western defense alliance to operate on the territory of the two Nordic states.
The move comes as the Finnish Air Force claimed that it had intercepted a Russian government aircraft that had violated Finland's airspace—the third such incursion in a week.
Sweden's government said on Thursday that it would sign a Host Nation Support memorandum of understanding with NATO on the grounds that it would help the country to prepare for training exercises with NATO troops and ease the provision or receipt of military support in the event of a crisis or conflict.
