Spanish fighter jet explodes killing pilot

Eurofighter TyphoonThe pilot of a Spanish fighter-bomber has died after the jet exploded on Tuesday afternoon shortly after taking off from the joint Spain–US airforce base of Morón de la Frontera in southern Spain.

The Eurofighter jet exploded shortly after 2pm shortly after take-off for a routine practice mission, Spanish daily ABC reported.

A ministry of defence spokesperson told Spain's Europa Press news agency the pilot had died in the accident.
