Search efforts stepped up as contact renewed with MH370 data recorders


Authorities said they were closing in on Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 after search crews ­regained contact with underwater pings consistent with the missing jet’s “black boxes.”

Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, who is leading the multinational search in the southern Indian Ocean, said on Wednesday that signals have been detected on four occasions in the same area.

“It’s nothing natural, it comes from a man-made device, and it’s consistent with the locator on a black box,” Air Chief Marshal Houston said.
