Mayport LCS sees boost despite threat of national cuts

USS Freedom (LCS-1)Despite big cuts potentially coming to the US Navy overall, I’ve learned there are reasons for Naval Station Mayport to be looking up.

Since Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel first announced his plan to reduce the number of Littoral Combat Ships the Navy will order by 20, WOKV has been digging in to the potential impact on Mayport. More than a dozen LCS are slated to come to Mayport as part of making the base the East Coast homeport for this squadron.

While the impact the proposed draw down would have to the number of ships coming remains uncertain, I’ve uncovered a significant boost to support the establishment as homeport.
