Defence to buy Triton unmanned aerial vehicles to be housed at Edinburgh

MQ-4C TritonA fleet of smart, giant drones will be housed at Edinburgh and will deliver a $100 million boost to the state.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who is in Adelaide today to stand next to Opposition Steven Marshall on one of the final days of the state election campaign, also will announce that the Government will buy Triton Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to patrol the nation’s borders.

UAVs are commonly known as drones but the Tritons are smarter than other unmanned craft, with sophisticated surveillance capabilities.
