The United States took over the NATO air-policing mission in the Baltic states on Friday following a formal changeover ceremony at the Air Base of the Lithuanian Air Force in Zokniai, northern Lithuania, replacing a Belgian air contingent.
The Americans will carry out the mission with four F-15 C Eagle fighter-jets, Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence said.
The incoming rotation arrived from Royal Air Force (RAF) Station Lakenheath, United Kingdom, its home base, and consists of over 150 members, including pilots, engineers, medical personnel, support groups, communications personnel, etc. It will be the fourth time an American contingent is in charge of the mission.
