Speaking on China's antipiracy patrol in the Mediterranean, Chang Jing, a professor from Taiwan's National Defense University, said that it is a sign that the Chinese navy continues to growth in strength and influence.
Jing made the comments on Jan. 2 after the Chinese frigate Yancheng set out Dec. 31 on an escort mission to provide support to ships in the Mediterranean delivering Syria's chemical weapons for destruction.
The Yancheng is cooperating with frigates from other countries, including Russia, and is currently sailing through the Suez Canal.
