Ingalls Shipbuilding starts on 30th DDG 51 destroyer

Georgeann McRaven, front, ship's sponsor for the destroyer Ralph Johnson, pressed the button that started fabrication of the destroyerWith a ceremonial flip of a switch, fabrication began at Huntington Ingalls Industries for the U.S. Navy's next Aegis guided missile destroyer, Ralph Johnson (DDG 114).

The ship will be the 30th Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) destroyer built at the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division.

Georgeann McRaven, the ship's sponsor, visited Ingalls to observe the start-of-fabrication ceremony. She is wife of U.S. Navy Adm. William McRaven, commander, U.S. Special Operations Command.
