First 'warshot' MU90 torpedo a blast


The Australian navy has proved its problematic lightweight torpedoes are working well enough to blow stuff up.

This week the navy conducted the world-first firing of a "warshot" (live) MU-90 torpedo from the Anzac frigate HMAS Stuart in the East Australian Exercise Area.

Navy chief Vice Admiral Ray Griggs said it was successful with the torpedo destroying a specially constructed target.
