The Irish navy is to name two new vessels after literary greats

LE AoifeSamuel Beckett and James Joyce will both be honoured when two new ships are delivered to the Irish Naval Service over the next two years.

The LE Samuel Beckett will enter into service in Irish waters early next year, with the LE James Joyce following it in 2015.

The two oldest ships in the fleet, LE Emer and LE Aoife, will be decommissioned and sold by the Irish Naval Service.
